American "Whale Log" Painted Pine Document Box with Brass Bail Handle Escutcheon Mounted on top, American Mid-19th Century. All four sides of the box are painted green and that is a dark brown ¼ inch brown painted border around the perimeter of all the sides and top with a quarter circle detail painted in each corner. The box has a key hole centered on the front of the box and retains its original key. The box retains its original brass butt hinges in the interior and flip up brass bail carrying handle mounted to the center of the lid. The top of the box has two rows of five black painted sperm whales on each side of the brass handle. An additional two rows of similar black painted sperm whales appear on the front of the box and line up in position to the whales on the lid. All the whales are extremely similar and may be stenciled to have the uniformity. (FA1125)
Condition: The box is in excellent condition and has a mellow age patina.
