                                                           Charles Henry Gifford
                                                                (1839-1904)

Oil on Canvas depicting a un-rigged sailing vessel at the shore signed “CH Gifford-Study” and titled on the stretcher “Old water boat”.  The planked hull is setting upright with supports. There is a male figure on the deck holding a railing. Presumably his wife is sitting on the shore near the boat with their child wading in the water feeding a few ducks. Behind the vessel are a few wharf cottages with a shore line with homes in the distance. The painting has a very calm and relaxed feeling similar to many of the great luminist paintings of the 1850s.
