Fine carved Eskimo Inuit Native American oosik carving. The oosik is the baculum, or penis bone of the walrus. The oosik is long valued as a totemic by the Eskimo people. The rare piece has carved walrus ivory carving of a walrus head on the narrow side and on the opposite side a polychrome carving of a pair of growling polar bears with black and red painted mouths. Between both walrus ivory carvings is a band of baleen. The oosik is
mounted on a wood base with applied ivory carving depicting a dog sled.
Condition: The oosik bone and walrus ivory carvings have nice age patina and typical small age cracks.
