Cat boat half model of the yacht “Francis” signed ant titled on the reverse of the back board by the maker “Malcolm M. Crosby Francis”. This highly accurate half model has a laminated mahogany hull above the waterline and white painted waterline stipe and the hull below the waterline is made from bass wood as is the center board. There is a painted and etched gold cove stripe just below the top rail which is made with an applied walnut which is fastened with tiny brass nails. The keel and “barn door” rudder is made with Walnut with an applied brass rudder post. The deck and bow sprit are also made of mahogany. The hull and all of the parts have been “bright” varnished with multiple coats and have a proper yacht appearance. The model is mounted on an oak backboard with an “OG” edge with a flat clear finish. On the bottom right corner is a small brass plaque with the name “Francis”. (SM-681)
Note: The Cat Boat Francis built for Townie Horner in 1968 which was then donated and is presently on view at the Osterville MA Historical Society boat shed. Townie Horner during his life time had a small wooden boat restoration company at his home on the Osterville Bay. Townie was a very active member of the Wianno Yacht Club and served as Commodore for a period of time.
