Information

Herreshoff 10GA brass signal cannon with cherry wood case, signed and numbered on the breach “RGB Cannons #441." The cannon was manufactured by the Bellmore Johnson Company which was located in Branford CT.  The brass barrel looks like an early 19th century naval cannon with a teak naval four-wheel carriage with brass hardware. The turned barrel has at the rear a breech that unscrews and slides up and off to allow access to the barrel to insert a standard 10GA shell. Once loaded the breech is screwed back into position. The rear of the barrel when struck with the teak mallet which is provided moves a spring-loaded firing pin forward which strikes the shell igniting it to fire. The cannon has its original cherry case which has side mounted brass flip out carrying handles. The interior of the case is green felt lined and has fitted compartments that house the cannon, mallet and eight shells.
Condition: The barrel has been recently polished and lacquered. The cannon is in working condition. The case has a few minor scuffs and the mallet has a chip on the head.
