Information

Rare 36" size Carved and painted finback whale, stamped on reverse "C. VOORHEES" (1911-1980) below Voorhees stamped logo. The whale is typical of Voorhees style and has a beige painted under body with black speckled paint above the beige.  The mouth and eye are a dark red color.  The whale has a raised fin on the lower part of his body and a raised fin on the upper part of his body located in front of his carved tail.  The reverse retains the original Voorhees round hanging hook. Condition:  Excellent
Note: The shipping label to Canada on the back of the whale is interesting.  Shortly after Voorhees' death a group of six carved whales were prominently displayed at The World Wildlife Fund Art Auction, “The Spirit of the Wild,” held at Sotheby Parke Bernet in Toronto, Canada on November 10, 1982.
