Carved and painted early ships figurehead featuring a bust of a beautiful young woman American circa 1840 and retains much of the original painted surface. The figure has beautifully articulated curly hair with polychrome carved flowers running from the left side of the head to the opposite end ear to ear. She has a gentle and beautiful face with articulated and delicate eyes, nose, mouth and chin. She is wearing a green shirt with yellow collar exposing her neck and some of her shoulders with bellowing sleeves. The figure is resting on a carved base with diamond shaped crisscross decorations. After she was removed from the vessel she was placed on a carved and blue/green painted wall hanging base with a carved and scrolled carved support knee. (FA-1067)
Note: Given the size of the figurehead it is likely she was mounted at the bow of a 60-70 foot coastal schooner.
