Hathaway, George M. (American 1852-1903) Oil on board, signed: "G.M. Hathaway," American, circa 1880. The left side of the painting shows a rocky point of land with green breaking waves. To the right near the horizon is a black-hulled two masted schooner. There is a band of bright blue in the sky surrounded by gray clouds with white highlights. There is a vignette effect in the lower corners. The color and composition is typical of Hathaway's New England coastal scenes. Condition of frame: The frame is a nineteenth-century style compo base fluted cove with 23 karat gold leaf surface.
