Cahoon, Charles D. (American 1861-1951) Oil on canvas, applied to a board, signed lower right: "C.D. Cahoon," American, circa 1910. The painting depicts a fisherman wearing high rubber boots and a sou'wester hat bending over a dory. The bow of the dory is on the beach and the stern is floating in the water. The top sides are painted red above white. The water is a pale light blue and is extremely calm. The sky is also light blue with a bank of clouds along the horizon. The painting is beautifully executed and has a subtle play of light and reflection in the water. (PA-680) Reference: Sykes, Barbara M'Cready, "He Painted Cape Cod The Life and Works of Charles D. Condition of frame: The frame is a nineteenth-century style with compo base fluted cove with 23 karat gold leaf surface.
