Cahoon, Charles D. (American 1861-1951) Oil on canvas, signed lower right: "C.D. Cahoon," American, circa 1910. The painting depicts a beached orange colored double ended dory with sail and spar line in the interior. Next to the dory is a flat bottom skiff. Along side the skiff is a metal pail. The foreground shows a patch of sandy beach with a small amount of dune grass in the left corner. The sea is extremely calm with only the slightest ripple at the shoreline. There is a cloud bank across the sky with pink and purple highlights. The water is reflecting the sky color and has a pale green hue. The sky and water has a gentle luminous effect. Condition of frame: The painting has a nineteenth-century style compo base fluted cove frame with a 23 karat gold surface.
