InformationBrass One Draw Spyglass with a Two Inch Lens, Signed on the draw tube "A CAIRNES, 13 WATERLOO ROAD, Liverpool circa 1880. The telescope has a sliding sun shade with a front lens cap. the back of the telescope has a polished tube. Most of the barrel is covered with a seamless stamped leather covering which has a "woven pattern". At each end of the leather tube rap is a hand woven "Turks Head". The draw tube pulls out and has a stop when fully retracted. (I 1003)
Condition: The telescope is in fine working order and has been recently polished and lacquered. The front and rear dark slides are lacking. The leather rap and turks heads are is excellent condition.
Dimensions: Length Closed 27 1/4, Length fully extended on both ends.
Note: A. Cairns was a 19th-century English telescope maker, and antique telescopes bearing this name, such as the single-draw telescope from the 1850-1899 era, are valued by collectors for their craftsmanship. While the name is less famous than figures like Thomas Cooke or William Herschel, who were also prominent 19th-century telescope makers, a telescope by A. Cairns is considered a valuable and antique piece.
