Exceptional miniature inlaid pine sea chest, American, circa 1860. The chest has a molded base and sits on round whalebone feet which are attached to the base with the same copper nails that attaches the wood base to the sides of the chest. The sides of the chest have attractive dovetailed joints. The front of the chest has a pronounced cant, typically found on a full size sea chest. The sides of the chest have applied wood brackets which support a pair of rope beckets. The top of the chest has a diamond mother-of-pearl inlay near each corner and a whalebone heart inlay at the center. The chest retains its original lock, front escutcheon plate and hinges. The interior of the chest has a till running along the right hand side. (FA1172))
