Information

                                              MICHAEL THEISE (American 1959-)
Tromp L’oeil, oil on board, titled and signed "Keeping It Safe" by "Michael Theise".
The painting depicts a paint decorated antique safe with American paper currency, coins and stock certificates. Many of the items appear to be adhered with masking tape and the lifting corners of the tape appear real as do all the items that are applied to the safe. The artist is obviously extremely talented at the tromp l'oeil technique which is why this painting was viewed as a masterpiece and was selected by the curators of the New Britain Museum of Art, Connecticut to be on the cover of the museum's tromp l'oeil exhibition catalogue. The painting has no frame because the artist’s intent was that the painting would appear as though it was a wall safe. (PA1095)
