Mahogany and brass ten-sided (decahedral) reversed taper telescope, unsigned English circa 1780. The telescope has a turned brass eyepiece which retains its original dark slide. This early instrument has crew focusing that requires one to rotate the eyepiece to focus rather than pulling in and out the draw tube for focusing. the front lens is held in its original brass fitting which also retains its original dark slide. This telescope is considered to be a rather long example compared to most of the existing examples.(I-955)
Condition: The telescope is in working condition and focuses a clear image. The mahogany tube is in excellent condition except for a few typical small age cracks.
