Carved mahogany ship's barometer, signed Cairns, Liverpool, England, circa 1850. The barometer has a carved crown above a carved crown above the ivory scales which are signed Cairns, 13 Waterloo Rd, Liverpool. The glass in front of the scales is bowed. The remainder of the stick is beautifully carved in the form of pedals, triangular flutes, above what looks like a carved napkin with rope carved napkin ring holder, above the brass cistern. Along the shaft is a frame molded thermometer with ivory scale. (I-166) Condition: The barometer is in outstanding condition and has a replaced tube and a later brass gimbal.
