Information

Chelsea 8 1/2 inch pilot clock and barometer set, 1999.  This massive set is numbered: "811430", and was the first of three prototypes which were manufactured.  The last pilots were discontinued in the 1930's. The clock has an engraved dial and a Chelsea eight day time and strike movement.  The yellow brass case has a hinge bezel.  Surrounding the case are ten brass spokes which extend through a bronzed ring which has a diameter of 13 3/4 inches. The barometer has a 8 1/2 inch silver dial and is also engraved and signed: "Chelsea".  The case and wheel size of the barometer is identical to the clock.  Both clock and barometer are set into a beautifully laminated walnut base. (Cl-203) Provenance:  This clock and barometer set comes with a letter dated: "February 1, 2000", and is signed by: "D. Bruce Mauch Vice-President of Chelsea Clocks".  This letter indicates that there were three prototype sets built.  Having evaluated the cost of production, it became obvious that the cost of production was so high and the process so complex that it was clearly unfeasible to continue with production.  The three sets produced as prototypes are the only ones which exist making them a great rarity.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Dimensions:  Diameter 19 inches; Depth 5 inches
