Walrus and whale ivory tree section five-wheel pie crimper, American, mid-nineteenth century. The main section of the crimper is carved from a block of walrus ivory and has a large diamond shaped inlay on one side. At the bottom end there are a pair of arms that hold the “V” grove crimper wheel. Mounted above the wheel there is a whale ivory pastry stamp in the shape of four leaf clover with heart-shaped leaves. On the top of the crimper is an applied whale ivory section with two pairs of arms each holding one of the four whale ivory small wheels. (SC1094)
Condition: The crimper has a deep mellow patina. One of the end wheel arms has been repaired as well as two of the small wheel arms.
