MONUMENTAL LIVERPOOL JUG CELEBRATING IRELAND

Tall ribbed neck with face of a horned satyr as the spout. Decorated with various transfers including a map of Ireland," May Irish Societies Freedom Maintain ...", "Union to the People of Ireland", "Tun'd to Freedom for our Countrywit",  May I be freighted with Irish Manufacture ...", "Great Britain And Ireland United MDCCC" and "May all virtuous Irishmen Live in peace and dye happy". Enameled handle. Impressed Herculaneum mark. This is the largest Liverpool jug we have seen with the larest number of trasfer printed images. (MI-854)

Condition: The Jug has been recently cleaned and restored and is in excellent condition
Provenance: This jug was in the famous and important maritime collection at India House, New York. It is illustrated on page 130 at the center of a round table a the center of the room in a photograph of the Lounge, in the book "A Descriptive Catalogue of the Marine Collection At India House"  Revised Second Edition Revised Edition published by Wesleyan University Press. Middletown CT, December 1973. The India House was the home of the Cotton Exchange located at Hanover Square in the center of the Financial District of New York City. The building was purchased by the club on Feb. 16, 1921. The founders of the India House were some of the same individuals that founded the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic CT. The maritime collection of the the India House rivaled most maritime Museum collections. It contained collections of marine paintings, prints, ship models etc. By the year 2000 the Club ceased to operate and most of the collection had been sold off and the building became a restaurant open to the public.
