Monumental cast iron and bronze andirons in the form of standing anchors with chain, American last quarter 19th Century. Each of the pair of the standing andirons have a long square shaft with a iron cross bar near the top with hammered bronze ball at each end of the cross bar. The top of the shaft is rounded and has a center hole holding a bronze upright ring. Each andiron has a decoratively shaped pair of flukes which are mounted to molded bronze bases. The andirons have a iron chain with a bronze ring on either end. The chain rings slip over the balls of the center shafts and loop on a small iron hook mounter near the top of the front of the anchor shaft. The chain loops can be adjusted based upon how far apart the andirons are placed inside the fireplace. The iron “dogs” are curved where they are attached to the back of the andirons then go back straight and stand on three iron feet. They are the largest and most detailed pair of anchor andirons we have examined over the years. (FA1107)
Condition: The andirons have a fine aged patina and our in excellent condition.
