PAIR OF POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TEETH Mid-19th Century
One depicts Lady Liberty and the other depicts Lady Justice. Both are seated on a plinth. Lady Liberty holds a staff topped with a Liberty" cap in her left hand and a red, white and blue American shield in her right hand. Her dress has stars on the arms and a red, white and blue American flag is draped from her shoulder, across her bodice and down her skirt. Lady Justice holds a balance scale in her right hand and a sword against her arm in her left hand. She is wearing a crown of laurel leaves and a long robe. The bodice of her dress is colored blue and red. (SC-1138)
