Information

Scrimshaw Whale Ivory, Bone and Mahogany Cane American, Mid-19th Century. The cane has a knob shaped grip with mahogany disc inlay at the top. Below is a carved mahogany section that is round and becomes eight sided. The cane has a tapered whalebone shaft that is eight sided at the top section with a small triangular shaped wood inlay at the top fallowed by a Turks head carving above a long section of carved wormed rope. At the end of the rope carved section is another Turks head and the shaft then becomes rounded and tapers to the end where there is the original brass ferrule. (WS0256)
Condition: The cane is in good condition. It has as a warm aged patina and there are typical age cracks in the shaft which has a gentle warp.
