Whalebone Cane with Rapped Baleen Decoration, American circa 1870

InformationFine and delicate ladies cane with whale ivory “S” curved whale ivory grip. The thin shaft is wrapped with a light-colored baleen. Over the light baleen covering is a dark colored baleen wrap pattern the twist down the full length of the shaft. This wrap at the top of the shaft has several tight wraps and ten continues down with a double wrap and every about 10 inches repeats a multi wrap section and then continues with the double wrap and this pattern repeats itself down the shaft. The cane retains its original tapered and scribd brass ferrule. (SC1333)
