Finely detailed model of a sloop yacht, identified on the transom “Wind Ward Phila”, American, circa 1930. The model has a very handsome and “racy” looking hull with a sharp tapered bow and a small transom. The hull is painted white above the waterline with a red boot stripe and copper below the waterline. There is a large overhang in the hull when you look at the length of the waterline to the length of the deck. The model has a mahogany deckhouse with rectangular windows with painted curtains in the corners. At the top of the deckhouse is a double skylight and a hatch. Below the hatch are paneled companionway doors. The cockpit has a pair of curved black painted seats with a wood tiller and grid pattern floor. There are a number of blocks and other deck fittings. There is a tall wood mast with two spreaders and a wood boom with tracks. The number 8 in a circle appears near the peak of the sail and the number 7 just below the second baton. The standing and running rigging are accurately rendered. The model retains its original jib and mainsail. The sails have finely delineated sail seams and the main has four buttons. The model is mounted on a new maple base with the hull sitting on blocks simulating the launching ways. (SM0729)
