Shadow Box Model of the Sidewheeler "ONWARD"
The shadow box has a nicely detailed painted background depicting the hills along the Hudson River. and is housed in a period walnut shadow box. The shadow box has a finely built model of an American paddlewheel steamer. The name “ONWARD” is painted below the paddle box. The hull is painted white, and the paddlewheel and superstructure are natural color mahogany. The two masts appear to be pine and retain the original rigging. The smokestack is painted black and has gray painted smoke on the backboard. The sea is plaster molded and painted green and there is a white painted sea churning showing a wake from the paddle boat in the water. The painted background looks like the hills facing each side of the Hudson River.
The model has its original dark wood frame with gold liner. The back is made from two wood planks.
