Troughton & Simms Miniature Boxed Sextant
InformationRare miniature brass boxed sextant, signed below the scale: "Troughton & Simms London", also signed with the owner's name: "P.B. Whittingham R.E.", circa 1830. The sextant is extremely well made and has two sets of color filters and two mirrors. The radius arm swings and can be adjusted mechanically for fine adjustments. The telescope ring also has a fine mechanical adjustment. The magnifier pivots left and right and rises up and down for focus. The sextant has a removable mahogany handle. The sextant retains its original high grade mahogany, offset, pie shaped box. The instrument is of unusually high quality as is its box. (I-754) Condition: The sextant has been recently polished and has a replaced telescope. The sextant has a contemporary brass and walnut base. Dimensions: Height 4 7/8 inches; Width 5 1/4 inches.
