Exceptional Cocktail Nantucket Basket with ivory Top and Multiple Ivory Carvings by Alan S.W. Reed, 2005
InformationExceptional Small oval Nantucket basket signed on the bottom "Alan S.W. Reed Nantucket 2005". The Basket has an oval highly polished top with an applied beautifully detailed Nantucket filled with mini-sea shells. Surrounding the basket are a series of eight tiny carved ivory sea shells. The basket has thin oak ribs with rattan weave. The weave is very fine and is referred to as micro-weave. The basket has an oak handle with an applied ivory top layer with with finely turned ivory escutcheons. The front clasp is made from ivory and has a finely shaped keeper with a hasp closure with ivory fid. The inside of the led has the original owners name"Pamela Thomas" engraved on the inside of the ivory plaque. The basket bottom is made from highly figured birds-eye maple. (FA1258)
