Ivory Top Hose Reyes Nantucket Cocktail Purse With Macy Carved Whale On Top and Signed on Bottom
InformationException Hose Formosa Reyes Nantucket Purse circa 1970. The basket has a oval shape with an ivory keeper with ivory fid. The oak swing handle has the typical Reyes swell at the center of the handle with small fine ivory escutcheons. The top of the basket has a carved ivory sperm whale mounted on an oval mahogany top plaque. The basket appears has Reyes's typical signature which states Made on Nantucket by Hose Formosa Reyes with the map of Nantucket. The ivory plaque on the inside has a black scrimshaw signature of the ivory carver and states "Aletha Macy".
It is rare to see her signature on the basket ivory plaque. (FA1257)
Condition: The basket has a very worm deep patina and has an old shellac finish. The basket is in excellent condition.
