Exceptional and Large Nantucket basket with Ivory Gull on Top by Hose Fomoso Reyes
InformationExceptional and Large Oval Nantucket Basket with Ivory Gull Top decoration, Circa 1965. The basket has oak ribs and an oak swing handle with the typical swell in the handle around the center of the handle. The sides of the handle have bulbus ivory escutcheons.The oval top panel is made from mahogany and has a large ivory spread winged gull on the top,probably carved by Althea Macy. The basket has a ivory receiver and hasp,with an ivory fid on a metal chain. The bottom oval panel is made from mahogany and their are traces of the original signature which states "Made by Hose Formosa Reyes" with a drawing of a map of Nantucket. (FA1250)
Condition: The surface of the basket has an old shellac finish and the basket a very warm deep patina.
