Exceptional Nantucket Purse With Ivory Whale and Two Harpoon Decoration on Top, circa 1970
InformationException Hose Formosa Reyes Nantucket Purse circa 1970. The basket has a oval shape with an ivory haslp and keeper closure with ivory fid. The oak swing handle has the typical Reyes swell at the center of the grop with bulbus ivory escutcheons. The top of the basket has a carved ivory sperm whale with a double fluke harpoon above and a single fluke harpoon below mounted on a oval mahogany top plaque. The basket appears unsigned however like many baskets that saw heavy use the signature may be worn away. (FA1256)
Condition: The basket has a very worm deep patina and has an old shellac finish. The basket is in excellent condition.
