Nantucket Friendship Basket with Whale ivory Whale by A. Macy, Circa 1955
InformationVintage Nantucket Basket purse by José Formoso Reyes (1902-1980) circa 1955. Features a carved Whale Ivory Sperm whale attributed to Althea Macy atop a ebony plaque. The basket is signed at the bottom of the base "Made by Jose Fomoso Reyes Nantucket with a map of Nantucket. The basket has oak formed and carved swing handle with a slight swell at the center of the handle.. This basket being one of Reyes earliest does not have ivory balls at ends of the handle, rather it has a simple copper rivet as was his custom in the earliest baskets. On the top of the inside of the base is a paper label with name of original owner from CT. (FA1265)
Condition: Great condition with a rich deep patina. The signature which is present it warn from use
